Man Caught After Stealing Cash Register Drawers From Long Island Bagel Boss, Police Say

Officers were able to track down a suspect who allegedly broke into a Long Island bagel store and stole cash from a pair of registers in the middle of the night, police said.

A man allegedly entered Bagel Boss on Old Country Road in Carle Place at approximately 4 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 1, Nassau County Police said. He then walked to the front of the store and removed two cash register drawers that contained an undisclosed amount of cash, said police.

After stealing the register drawers, the suspect took off on foot in an unknown direction.

According to police, the investigation led them to Westbury resident Gerard Conway, 22, who was arrested near Westbury Avenue and Cherry Lane in Carle Place at approximately 4 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 3.

Conway was taken into custody without further incident, and charged with third-degree burglary. He was scheduled to be arraigned later on Jan. 3 at First District Court in Hempstead.
